The mission of the City Auditor is to provide independent and objective audit and consulting services that promote the integrity, accountability, effectiveness and efficiency of City government satisfying the trust of the citizenry.
The Office of the City Auditor is an independent and objective appraisal function established by Ordinance in August 2000 (C-32674). The role and responsibilities of the City Auditor and Audit Committee are codified in Spokane Municipal Code (Chapter 07.11) which was most recently revised in December 2004.
The primary objective of the City Auditor's Office is to assist city officials in the effective discharge of their fiduciary responsibilities. The City Auditor provides impartial analysis, appraisals, recommendations, counsel and information concerning the activities reviewed. The City Auditor is authorized to conduct financial, performance or other audits of all departments, offices, boards, activities and agencies of the City. Through its audit activities the Office of the City Auditor helps provide assurance that,
