Mission Statement
To provide a coordinated approach to needed neighborhood-based direct and support services and outreach; act as an advocate for issues affecting the neighborhood as well as assisting in developing strategies and resources to address emerging community needs and concerns.
Job description of board or commission members
The function of the board is to serve as an advisory board and non-profit organization for the East Central Community Center. Meet once a month, the last Monday of every month at 6:00 pm. Advised on the operation of the community center and oversees the operation of the ECCO Primary Care Medical Clinic, computer lab, trees for your neighborhood, Onyx Theatre Group and the Community Christmas dinner.
Elected Officers: The elected officers of the Corporation shall be: the President, the First Vice-President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and four (4) Second Vice-Presidents. The President, First Vice-President, Secretary and the Treasurer are directly elected to their respective offices by the membership. The four Second Vice-Presidents are elected as at-large members of the Board of Directors and become Vice-Presidents when they are selected as chairs of the four standing committees of the Corporation.
The President shall: recommend and guide the implementation of policies for the Corporation, represent the Corporation to the media and the general public, exercise general supervision over other officers of the Corporation, conduct all regular and special meetings of the Board of Directors, countersign, with the Treasurer, all checks drawn on the Corporate treasury and all other financial documents relating to the Corporation, appoint chairpersons of committees not directly elected, appoint non-elected officers of the Corporation, and serve as an ex-officio member of all committees.
The First Vice-President shall, in the absence of the President, perform all the duties of the President, including countersigning with the Treasurer all checks drawn on corporate accounts. The First Vice-President shall perform such other duties as may be assigned by the President. The First vice-President shall serve as membership chairman and shall provide background material needed by the Board of Directors in their deliberations.
The Secretary shall: maintain a record of the proceedings of the Corporation, cause the proceedings of all meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors to be recorded and made available on request to any member, maintain in safe custody, all business and financial records of the Corporation, and assume the duties of the Treasurer in his/her absence.
The Treasurer shall: be the chief financial officer of the Corporation, maintain bookkeeping records for the Corporation, receive and bank all funds of the Corporation, countersign with the President or First Vice-President all checks drawn on Corporate accounts, provide financial statements at least quarterly to the Board of Directors, and arrange for an annual external audit of Corporate books.
The four Second Vice-Presidents shall serve as the chairs of the four standing committees (public relations, fundraising, policies and procedures, and community development) of the Corporation and be responsible for soliciting members of their committees and carrying out the work of the committee as assigned by the Board of Directors.
