Issues & Topics

Law Enforcement Technology

  • An expanded wireless capacity will enhance the use of mobile computers in police cars and allow law enforcement to quickly respond with as much information as possible from/to any scene.

Mayor’s Affordable Housing Task Force

  • Former Mayor Dennis Hession announced that the City of Spokane will lead a multi-jurisdictional effort to address the availability of affordable housing within the Spokane region. The Mayor has established an Affordable Housing Task Force to tackle both immediate and long-term needs.

GigaPop - Connecting Spokane to the World

  • A regional GigaPop network will provide reliable, cost-effective, high-speed network connectivity in the Inland Northwest by providing technology- and information-based economic growth.

University District Infrastructure Projects

  • The creation of a University District in the heart of Spokane is an important catalyst to spur economic development for the region. The University District is a unique place where all the pieces of a technology-based economy come together. It provides important and needed education and training opportunities for citizens, creates jobs, enhances research capability and reinvigorates Spokane's downtown core.

Riverside Avenue Extension

  • The City of Spokane's role is to facilitate economic development, including developing and constructing University District infrastructure projects by priority based on the District’s Master Plan. The highest priority is the design and construction of an extension to Riverside Avenue that will enable a more contained and campus-like area for students and faculty, and will resolve enhancement and safety concerns.

Fish Lake Trail Completion

  • Fish Lake Trail has been identified as an important link in the region's expanding trail system that once completed will connect the 37 mile long Centennial Trail with the Columbia Plateau Trail, a Washington State Parks and Recreation facility.

Downtown Spokane Streetcar

  • The City of Spokane and the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) desire to move forward the necessary analysis for a future downtown streetcar system in Spokane. A streetcar system is highly effective in transporting large numbers of visitors and employees short distances within an urban setting, but it also is very much prized for its economic opportunities.
