Dennis P. Hession was sworn in as the 42nd Mayor of the City of Spokane in January 2006. He was appointed unanimously by the Spokane City Council to serve in this position until the next general municipal election in November 2007. Mayor Hession is the City's Chief Executive Officer, directing the activities of the City's 2,000 employees and managing a $500 million annual budget.
Mayor Dennis Hession has a long history of service to our City and to the entire community.
Before being appointed unanimously by the City Council to the City's top job, Mayor Hession served on the Spokane City Council for four years. In 2004, he was elected as City Council President after serving two years as a Council Member from Spokane's District 2, which represents the south side of Spokane. Prior to his work on the Council, Mayor Hession also served on the City's Park Board for 11 years.
In his professional life, Mayor Hession is an attorney. He worked at Richter-Wimberley, P.S., from 1982 through 2005 practicing business law, taxation, estate planning, and commercial litigation.
He attended Gonzaga University where he received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, and the University of Florida, where he received a Master of Laws in taxation.
He is married to Jane, his wife of more than 30 years. Together, they have four children.

- Excelsior Youth Center: Board of Directors from 1982-present and President for a four-year term
- Washington State Bar Association Special Committee
- Spokane County Bar Association Lawyers/Student mentoring program
