Mike Stone Division Director of Parks and Recreation |
Mike Stone manages a budget of $17 million and a staff of over 85 that balloons to 400 during the busy summer parksand recreation season. With over 55 developed parks and more than 3,600 acres, the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department is a wonderful asset to this community. Among many other things, Mike's team ensures that Riverfront Park's carrousel is running, the golf greens on our four City courses are impeccable, our swimming pools are clean, our turf and formal gardens are manicured and our urban forestry is healthy. Background: Mike was named the City’s Parks and Recreation Director in November 2001. With over 25 years at Parks and Recreation, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position. Since becoming the Director, Mike has ensured that the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department has continued to grow and develop to meet the changing needs of the community, while maintaining the 100-year legacy of an outstanding park system. Mike has a bachelor’s of landscape architecture degree from the University of Idaho and masters of organizational leadership degree from Gonzaga University. He is a certified Park and Recreation Professional, a licensed landscape architect, and is a member of NRPA, WRPA, ASLA, NGF and former board member of the National Institute of Golf Management. |
