Duties: Performs professional technical support, computer programming and limited systems analysis work for geographic information systems. Develop, implement and maintain GIS software applications to be used by City departments participating in GIS and contracting customers. Evaluate, install, troubleshoot and manage GIS system hardware and software. Train City personnel on GIS methodologies, proper installation and operation of GIS software. Prepare and maintain various documentation, including GIS software applications and database design.
Open Requirements: (All requirements must be met at time of application.) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field, AND one year of GIS programming experience.
Promotional Requirements: (All requirements must be met at time of application.) Completion of three years with the City in the classification of Programmer Analyst, one year during which the candidate performed GIS programming.
Examination: The examination will consist of a supplemental application form (Training and Experience Evaluation) and, for promotional applicants, a promotional evaluation. Weights are assigned as follows: for open applicants, Training and Experience Evaluation 100%; for promotional applicants, Training and Experience Evaluation 80% and promotional evaluation 20%.
Upon request, at time of application, the City will provide alternative accessible tests to individuals with disabilities that impair manual, sensory or speaking skills needed to take the test, unless the test is intended to measure those skills.
NOTE: Under continuous testing policy, additional examinations may be scheduled with results merged into one eligibility list according to final ratings.
