Hillyard was added to Spokane. Hillyard was a small railroad manufacturing town named for James J. Hill who was head of the railroad. Most of the homes in the neighborhood where built between 1904 and 1912 to house workers in the local rail yards. Hillyard had the largest locomotive manufacturing shop in the nation. |
