Grand Coulee Dam, a large hydroelectric dam located on the Columbia river in Central Washington, was being constructed. Made from 12 million cubic yards of concrete, Grand Coulee Dam is the largest concrete structure in the United States and the third largest hydroelectric facility in the world. The dam had a profound positive effect on Spokane and its economy during the war. |
