Photo Enforcement Warning Period Ends Friday

Release Date: 10/29/2008 12:00:00 AM

Contact: Teresa Fuller, 835-4568

The Spokane Police Department will begin issuing citations for red light runners through the Photo Enforcement Program this Saturday, November 1st. The 30-day warning period started on October 1st and will end this Friday, October 31st. As of October 26th, Spokane Officers had approved 518 warning notices to be issued. Another 102 warnings are currently in various phases of processing at American Traffic Solutions, the vendor that administers the program for SPD.

The Red Light Photo Enforcement cameras are at the following intersections:

  • Browne St. southbound at Sprague Ave.
  • Division St. north and southbound at Francis Ave.
  • Hamilton St. northbound at Mission Ave.

"Our goal is to stop red light violators and prevent collisions resulting from red light runners," said Sgt. Eric Olsen. "We've worked hard to publicize the program and encourage the public to follow the law and stop on red. If a driver violates the law and puts lives at risk by running a red light, they'll no longer get away with it."

The cameras operate 24 hours a day and capture images of every vehicle running a red light at the monitored intersections. Warning signs alerting drivers to the red light cameras were installed prior to the warning period. Once the warning period is complete, drivers who run red lights at the designated intersections will be issued a $124 citation. The program is administered by ATS with each violation reviewed and approved by a Spokane police officer prior to being issued.
