City of Spokane Seeks Proposals to Redevelop YMCA Building

Release Date: 12/23/2009 12:00:00 AM

Contact:
Ann Deasy,
(509) 625-6318

The City of Spokane is seeking proposals to redevelop the former YMCA Building in Riverfront Park into a high-quality, mixed-use project that could include retail, office, and residential space. Proposals will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

Earlier this month, the City Council determined that they would like to explore other possible uses for the property other than demolishing the building and returning it to its natural condition. The Council approved the issuance of a request for proposals (RFP) to seek developer interest in such a project at their Dec. 21 meeting.

The former YMCA building, which was built in 1965, is located on a nearly 40,000-square-foot site with 227 feet of frontage along the south bank of the Spokane River. The RFP anticipates a long-term lease for the site, with the City retaining ownership of the property.

A pre-proposal conference is set for Thursday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Briefing Center, lower level at Spokane’s City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. All interested proposers are encouraged to attend.

The RFP is attached. Potential respondents may contact Gavin Cooley, the City’s Chief Financial Officer, at (509) 625-6586 or gcooley@spokanecity.org with questions.
