The Spokane Regional Youth Department and Chase Youth Commission are recruiting for three open youth positions on the City of Spokane’s Human Rights Commission. The Human Rights Commission advises and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding issues related to human rights, unjust discrimination, and the implementation of programs consistent with the needs of all residents of the City. The Human Rights Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m.
The commission consists of nine members with three representatives from each of the three City Council districts. One of the three membership positions in each district will be filled with a youth representative. The youth representative position shall be open to all City of Spokane residents sixteen to eighteen years of age, with a term of one year.
Those interested in applying may obtain further information and an application by contacting the Spokane Regional Youth Department, 625-6440 or by visiting www.chaseyouth.org. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010.
The Spokane region is one of the very few localities in the nation to provide numerous opportunities for youth to serve on decision-making boards. Inclusion of youth on boards and commissions is an integral part in creating a modern, vibrant, and innovative community in which to live. These opportunities provide youth perspective on a wide range of issues and give youth a voice in decisions that shape our entire community.
