City voters also will vote in a race for a Spokane Public Schools board member position. Throughout the county, many local offices also are up for election. Election Forums
CityCable 5 and the Spokane Chapter of the League of Women Voters once again teamed up to provide televised forums for the November general election. The League organized and moderated the forums in partnership with CityCable 5 as part of an ongoing service to provide area voters with current information on candidates and ballot issues.

Forums featuring candidates for City of Spokane offices, a Spokane Public Schools Board position, and several state and local ballot measures were taped in September. The forums will be shown on CityCable 5 throughout October. Click here to see the full TV schedule. The videos also are available on line at http://www.spokanecity.org/services/citycable5/streamingmedia/ . Click on “Other Video Programs” and select the General Election Forums.

Animal Control, Measure 1
All voters in Spokane County will consider Measure No. 1, a levy to replace the Spokane Regional Animal Protection Shelter. The Board of Spokane County Commissioners adopted a resolution to place this proposal on the ballot. The levy would increase the regular property tax levy in the County by up to 5.8 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation starting in 2012 and terminating in nine years or less. Here is the County’s fact sheet on this proposal.

Other Measures being considered
Voters also will be asked to consider a number of statewide and local measures on this year’s ballot. The Spokane County on-line voters’ guide provides information on the items that will be on the ballot.
