After several weeks of inspection and maintenance, Spokane's historic Looff Carrousel is back open and ready for use. The Looff Carrousel closed its doors for annual maintenance Jan. 3, 2012. Riverfront Park staff meticulously inspected the carrousel and made replacements to the carrousel's crank shaft. In addition, all the original 100-year old horses were also carefully restored and readied to welcome over 250,000 riders a year.
Riverfront Park's 1909 Looff Carrousel is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of America's most beautiful and well preserved hand-carved wooden carrousel's. It features 54 horses, 1 giraffe, 1 tiger, and 2 Chinese dragon chairs.
The Looff Carrousel will open at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2. Hours of operation are Friday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 29. For more information.
