Public meeting set to discuss Joe E. Mann Center

Meeting set for Thursday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Release Date: 3/27/2013 3:10:00 PM

MEDIA CONTACT: Ben Stuckart, City Council President, Office - (509) 625-6258; Cell - (509) 710-9611

Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart and Council Members Amber Waldref and Mike Fagan are organizing a public meeting to discuss the future of the Joe E. Mann Center in the Hillyard Neighborhood, Thursday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook. The meeting is designed to gather public input on how to make best use of the facility.

“During this meeting we would like to hear input from the public and narrow the scope of proposals we will be requesting,” Stuckart explains. “Public input will be important as we move forward with this process.”

Mann Hall originally was slated to be used by the Spokane Public Schools (SPS) for a training center. However, last year vandals wreaked havoc on the inside of the facility and caused thousands of dollars in damage, making it unusable without considerable repairs. That expense was not figured into the purchase cost, and SPS officials declined to take over the facility for school use.

Council Members Stuckart, Waldref and Fagan will answer questions and take testimony from neighborhood residents about their vision for the facility. Items to be discussed include: best use, largest benefit to the neighborhood, and financial viability of the end user.

For those who cannot attend, please email comments to Council President Stuckart (bstuckart@spokanecity.org) by Thursday, April 4.
