Over five million people from around the world visited Riverfront Park in Spokane for the Expo '74, touring the city and its falls. Spokane was the first city to ever host a fair with an environmental theme. Spokane still holds the record as the smallest city ever to host a World's Fair. Its theme was well chosen: "Man Living in Harmony with Nature." EXPO was the event which started the mutual efforts to appreciate and restore the river as an illustration of our will to protect one of our most invaluable resources. |
