SNOW REMOVAL

Winter is upon us in the Inland Northwest, and City of Spokane employees are monitoring road conditions 24 hours a day to ensure fast response to changing conditions. When trucks are out, please do not attempt to pass them; it is very dangerous. Information is available at www.spokanecity.org. Brochures with City snow plow routes and additional information on the City’s snow removal plan are available at Spokane Public Libraries and community centers. Citizens also may follow us on Twitter or Facebook. The City starts plowing on arterials with about an inch of snow on the ground.  Citizens can check the progress of the plows when the City makes a snow event declaration. Citizens also can call our Snow Removal Hotline at 456-2666 for recorded information on the location of plows.

Here’s a look at the City’s snow condition declarations:

Stage 1 Snow Event is declared when 2 inches of snow are on the ground and four more are anticipated during the current snow event. The City will plow arterials, fixed STA bus routes, the Neighborhood Business Districts, Central Business District, hospitals and medical district, and residential hill routes numbered 20 and above on the City’s residential snow plow route map. We’ll also clear sidewalks around priority City-owned property within 24 hours.

Citizens will be asked to move parked cars off all arterials and fixed STA bus routes within six hours; move parked cars to the even side of the street in residential hills in routes 20 and above within 12 hours; and clear sidewalks of snow within 24 hours.

Stage 2 Snow Event is declared when 6 inches of snow are on the ground and more is anticipated during the current storm. The City will embark on a full-City plow, which takes up to four days, depending on weather conditions. We’ll also clear sidewalks around priority City-owned property within 24 hours. Citizens will be asked to move parked cars off of arterials and STA fixed bus routes within six hours; move parked cars off of residential hills in routes 20 and above within 12 hours; and out of downtown street parking spaces between 2 and 6 a.m. Additionally, citizens should park their cars on the even side of the street within 12 hours; clear snow off of parked vehicles, sidewalks and from around fire hydrants, storm drains, and mail boxes.
